Disability, Chronic Illness, & COVID-Consciousness
Supporting Access and Sensory Needs
At Waves, we do our best to keep accessibility and sensory needs in mind when it comes to our office space. Our site outlines the building layout, the lighting in the office, and the noise that can be heard both inside and outside the building.
Knowing Your Body the Best
Folks with disabilities and chronic illnesses are often not believed by medical professionals when describing the severity of their symptoms and pain. Not being taken at their word can lead to people being misdiagnosed, creating an even longer wait time for receiving proper care.
We know that pain and discomfort can fluctuate from day to day and access needs may change throughout the day. We get that some days you may need a mobility aid and other days you won’t. We understand the idea that daily tasks can take a lot of energy.
Maybe you’re dealing with a new diagnosis and need help navigating the impacts it has on your daily routine. Or maybe you’re feeling a loss of identity while trying to navigate a new “normal”. We are here to help out as you take the lead.
Understanding COVID-Conscious Folks
Since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared in 2020, many people have returned to the lives they lived before the pandemic. At the same time, others are continuing to take precautions to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. The presence of (K)N-95 masks, air purifiers, outdoor gatherings, and frequent COVID testing is not going away anytime soon for those who remain COVID-conscious.
We know how challenging it can be to navigate spending time with others when they do not take the same precautions you do.
As more and more research on COVID-19 is conducted, people who are COVID-Conscious are needing to stay up-to-date. Whether it’s the declining accuracy of at-home tests, the need to upgrade masks, or the need for air filtration in enclosed spaces, it can be a lot to keep up with.
Oftentimes, COVID-conscious individuals are viewed as “living in fear” or being “too much” when continuing to uphold precautions. We don’t think you are too much here. We get that being COVID-conscious is an act of self-love and an act of resistance.
Are you experiencing a sense of loss when thinking about your pre-pandemic life? Are you finding it nerve-wracking to not be able to stay up-to-date with COVID research? Are you feeling the need to compromise your precautions in order to please others? Are you feeling left out of social gatherings because there are no precautions in place?
