Waves Updates - June 2022

Hello everyone!

It’s June which means, Happy Pride to everyone! If you are in San Diego, we get an extra Pride in July as that is when most of our Marches/Parades are. :)

I wanted to send along an update with some of the exciting things happening here at Waves.

We are super excited to have more clinical availability at our practice, thanks to Kelly Hutton (pronouns: she, her, hers),  Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (under Dr. Weissman’s supervision). She has SO MUCH experience and still has immediate openings (this is amazing and we at Waves are so grateful for the time she is putting into her work here). She’s even fluent in Spanish! We have updated our website to highlight one of Kelly’s specialties, couples, partners, and chosen family therapy. Please check it out at https://www.wavespsych.com/couples-chosen-family-therapy . Also see her web page at https://www.wavespsych.com/kellyhutton or sign up for a coveted appointment to work with Kelly at https://doctorabi.clientsecure.me/ She is often able to get clients in within a week. She is officially offering in office visits for vaccinated folks at our Banker’s Hill location while continuing to see clients online.

I’m back studying Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. Currently, I’m taking a new class in how to teach a Phoenix Rising Yoga class. Eeeeek! I’m offering this 8 session series to talk therapists and I still have a few spots left. The total cost for the series is $80 but no one is turned away for lack of funds. For more information about the class series, please see https://www.wavespsych.com/prytclasses . I continue to offer individual sessions too. More information about connecting to your body through Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy can be found at https://www.wavespsych.com/phoenixrisingyogatherapy If there’s any trouble in signing up, please feel free to email me at yogatherapy@wavespsych.com or office@wavespsych.com . I’d love to have you join the class!

Clinicians, Kelly Hutton, AMFT and Dr. Abi Weissman offer queer and trans - affirming and knowledgeable EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in addition to talk therapy. More information about the cutting edge trauma treatment, EMDR can be found at https://www.wavespsych.com/emdr . This treatment can help clients recover from difficult experiences without having to describe the experiences in detail. Instead, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help clients process and heal from their painful experiences resulting in clients feeling happier and more at ease in their bodies and minds. This remarkable and effective treatment has been useful for many issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, sexual assault, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma and stress-related issues (see the regulating body’s website at https://www.emdria.org/about-emdr-therapy/ for further information about EMDR).
